I once made my list of the best coffee shops in Jakarta, and almost too ashamed to admit that due to the amateur writing and photography skill it's almost criminal. The post was made in 2013, back then I often use the term "the best" to a list that was technically covers all coffee shops in Jakarta, so it's not best-best, but this boy right here is all grown up, has his mind and sense opened to the F&B scene (in a way better educated by experience), is realizing that Starbucks' coffee is not the best best (I always go for the fraps nowadays), and is now taking better pictures! So I guess this post should be the more reliable one.
The coffee shop scene in Jakarta has been growing rapidly and for a coffee enthusiast like me, it has been really-really fun, and a new coffee joint/kopitiam is now opening, brewing and feeding y'all hungry tummy, give it up for the new 'baby': Koffie Warung Tinggi a/h Tek Soen Hoo!

This particular coffee shop claimed itself to be one of the most legendary coffee shops in Jakarta and has been on the scene since 1878, frankly speaking I just knew this, probably because of its placement in the more happening and famous area like Grand Indonesia shopping mall. Koffie Warung Tinggi is being organized under the Opco group which by the way also managed some famous names like Yellowfin, Portico, Stark Bierhaus, Domain and many more.

Koffie Warung Tinggi is actually pretty spacious with dark colors and dim light all over the cafe, I noticed it didn't have any separation between the smoking and non-smoking area which sort of unfortunate for me, but I would say that how they set the seating and the ambiance of the room was pretty convenient, plus I noticed they had pretty good Wi-Fi connection, there's a thing with Wi-Fi connection lately, honestly, I am such a sucker for internet connection, it's almost like everytime I noticed a cafe without Wi-Fi I would skip. I know that sounded so lame but I just need wi-fi okay! Don't tell me you don't open your social medias or doing your business even when you're eating, it's like the biggest lie ever.

I didn't order that much, but I think you know how "my not much" is not much ;).

Beside coffee as the main star, they also had range of appetizers, main courses (Indonesian-Dutch-Chinese), mocktails and desserts for you to choose. I ordered their peach ice tea (IDR 32k), hot tea (IDR 28k), and one plate of Nasi Uduk (IDR 48k). Okay, the peach tea was pretty refreshing and fragrant but I guess you know the measurement of how good ice tea can be right, their hot tea was exactly...how tea tasted like (-.-), it's available in some flavors that you can choose depending on your preference and they're refillable (hot water). Their version of Nasi Uduk was pretty good along with the distrubing nice fragrance and appetizing look, but I guess if they push the kick from the seasoning of Nasi Uduk, that would be better, you know the feeling when you're reaching 80% of the food climax and went "uh...", just a little more and it would probably be perfect.

I know right, not the best way to explain how good the food was.

Despite the almost perfect Nasi Uduk, gotta love the fried chicken, it was really good, cripsy, nicely seasoned with perfect savoriness to it. The soya beancurd and soya bean cake were just okay.

Gotta be back for more trials, I had my eye on their Bitterballen and cakes but I was too full that time so I skipped. Overall I had a pretty convenient experience here, and yes thanks again to the awesome Wi-Fi connection! (Gotta stop the emphasizing the Wi-Fi!).

I had high expectations for this coffee shop and looking at the amount of costumers coming to have a pleasure time here was like noticing hope, good luck and welcome to the jungle Koffie Warung Tinggi!

I have heard a lot of great things from this particular coffee shop and I couldn't handle myself from not coming here, even on the current rainy days like this, I am still on board.

This particular coffee shop is called Giyanti Coffee Roastery located in the Menteng Area, Jalan Surabaya No. 20 to be exact. It's a vintage coffee shop owned by a coffee enthusiast named Hendrik Halianto (and let me tell you, he is a coffee genius). Giyanti was divided into two areas: indoor and outdoor. I was pretty impressed by how the coffee shop looked because as you guys probably recall, I am an avid fan of earthy elements and minimal design for a coffee shop, Giyanti offered both and it was splendid of them. The venue was not very spacious, but it's a really homey and comfortable place to have a coffee break.

The outdoor area was a slightly more humid dring the day while the indoor area's air-conditioned all day.

Another tremendous thing about Giyanti that I need to highlight: no smoking allowed! Yes!!! And not to mention, the smoke from the cigarettes could degrade the coffee beans quality.

I went here with Aline from Foolosophy, she is my feast partner-in-crime, hence you could call her BEAST (jk). We ordered two cups of coffee and some pastries to save the day. For your information, Giyanti brews Single Origin coffees and the fabulous espresso machine was the La Victoria Arduino *bling*.

Cappuccino (with Bali Kintamani beans)
IDR 34k
Let me just cut this short and crowned this THE BEST CAPPUCCINO I HAVE HAD SO FAR IN LIFE! Yes, when I am THAT sure to label something as "the best" then I must have meant it! I love how Mr. Hendrik could read me and pointed that I must loved chocolaty coffee (psychic much?) but he was right on the spot and his cappuccino creation was just perfect! I would really love you guys to have this on your visit. This one was different in a gloriously good way.

PS: The latte art should be a lot better than this comparing to the next order (piccolo) but I was like 5 minutes late (thanks to the traffic jam stuck) so Aline went to order first.

Piccolo (Bali Kintamani Beans)
IDR 34k
This cup of Piccolo was awesomely brewed, loving the balance of the coffee and the steamed milk creating a lovely overall flavor. If you guys wondering what Piccolo is, it's actually tasted more like a latte for me (and I am answering this based on my experience) only it's slightly different on the presentation.

Gluten Free Chocolate Brownies
IDR 25k
This came with rich chocolate flavor but I found this way too milky for my taste bud, if you appreciate milky flavor to your meals, this one would be lovely for you.

Almond Croissant
IDR 25k
If you wished for a crispy coating croissant with buttery flavor, then this one might not be for you, but what I can tell you that this croissant was so moist and the flavor was just beautiful. I found this really decent to be honest, how about you?

Overall, my visit Giyanti was superb! I had a nice quick chat with Mr. Hendrik, it was glad to share...err, wait a second, I didn't feel like sharing anything because Mr. Hendrik gave me worthy information about coffee while I didn't (forgive this loser) and most importantly, the coffee was spectacular. I easily awarded this as ONE OF THE BEST COFFEE SHOP IN JAKARTA. Period. I am missing the cappuccino at the moment.

Attention please, Giyanti is brewing the coffees only from Wednesday to Saturday from 9.30 AM - 5.30 PM, they're closed for roasting beside those days.

It was Sunday, I had a meeting with my client at Gandaria City and I remember vividly that I only had around 5 hours to sleep on the previous day and I was super sleepy and all that I could think of was coffee...coffee and coffee... Somehow my memory brought me back to the old conversation with my blogger partner-in-crime, Aline about this hip coffee shop called One Fifteenth Coffee in Gandaria neighborhood so I wasted no time contacting her and went there together to kill the sleepiness.

My first impression stepping in to One Fifteenth: MY DREAM COFFEE SHOP! If I have the chance to build my own coffee shop, One Fifteenth was maybe 80% of what I have always had in mind! White color majority, earthy materials like woods and cement and the perfect lighting for the day because they're using the window glass everywhere! Loving the light here during the day... fabulous one!

I noticed a lot of coffee utilities and suddenly assuming that this is a one serious coffee shop! The branding itself was also strong.
I didn't manage to try out their food (yes they also had food here), despite from its sophisticated look, One Fifteenth actually offered you a more traditional food selections like Mie Celor, Pempek Palembang and I heard from some people that they're also serious with the food *curious alert*, going to really try that on the next visit.

I was happy to find out that One Fifteenth also offered a few coffee brewing methods depending on your liking like the good old French Press, V60, Chemex (ones with filter papers), Syphon and Kalita Wave, so whenever your curiosity and adventurous side is popping, you could custom your own coffee brewing!

Hot Mocha
IDR 40k
There are times when I desperately need coffee, my suffering doesn't stop there, sometimes it's a little more suffering to choose if you want to have the hot (for the sake of the Latte art) or the iced version (for the pleasure), never knew choosing coffee would be this stressful! Anyway, the latte art was decent and neat and I personally pretty fond of this one, it had a decent balance of the chocolate and coffee flavor, appropriate sweetness. A good enjoyable coffee for the day.

Iced Cappuccino with Caramel Syrup
IDR 38k
Since I am more of an iced coffee person (especially Cappuccino), I stuck with my good old choice of Iced Cappuccino, but this time with a little kick from the caramel syrup! The coffee was just beautiful, I love the perfect balanced of the coffee intensity (not overpowering but not extremely mild either). Another fascinating coffee for the day!

In a nutshell, One Fifteenth is just the perfect place for coffee lovers who are looking for a venue to work, meetings, a pleasure me-time and even group study (seriously?). Gotta give it to One Fifteenth for separating the smoking and non-smoking area because I truly deeply have issues with smokes from the cigarette called "hatred".

I happily recommend everyone to go here and sip on their fabulous coffees. Thanks to the venue and the coffees, this place rocketed to my list of Jakarta's Best Coffee Shops in a snap!

A few days ago, I had a meeting with one of my clients here, must admit this person has a decent taste for coffee shops for I have (too) been checking this place out for a while... and to actually spent a few hours talking about future projects and sipping good coffee here is such a decent moment :).

If you guys know Commune Restaurant, this coffee shop located exactly at the same building as Commune (Jalan Suryo No. 25), but they're located closer to earth at the ground floor. What used to be the area for a furniture showroom, Crematology successfully renovated the pretty large space to a coffee "showroom", and what I truly love about this in the very first place is definitely the venue! I love how they decorated the interior to be as simple as they could with majority usage of woods and earthy materials, dim minimal lighting, everything is so simple but classy, urban and youthful!

Lovely wood table, so nice to take photos on.

Nutella Cupcake
IDR 20k
One of the most decent Nutella cupcakes I have had in life, the cupcake's so moist, the Nutella jam was given very generously! They should make a larger portion for this delicious little devil, and oh, they actually gave me another complimentary of this, so very nice of them!

Iced Cappuccino
IDR 39k (large)
Their cappuccino is simply good, the coffee's strong but not overpowering the taste bud and refreshing, I just have one wonder here regarding to the presentation, it looked more like the presentation of an Iced Macchiato to me.

In a nutshell, I believe this coffee shop is the next happening thing, frankly speaking they're not 100% done with all the interior decoration for their grand opening is on the December 8th (so my visit's on the soft-opening days), but it's nice to know that finally Jakarta's evolving with its gorgeous looking coffee shops that not only sweet in the eyes but also sweet in the mouth. Hands down to the service, it was impeccable, the baristas were super friendly! There will definitely be another visit, my eyes were so captivated by the "NUTELLA FRAPPE" written on the menu, I was just so sleepy I need a freaking coffee boost but I'll definitely have that on my next visit!

Best of luck Crematology, you are freaking awesome!
