If you're more a Fukuoka Ramen type of person, there is this new Fukuoka ramen house opening in Jakarta, (north to be exact at Kelapa Gading) called Ryo Tei Ramen. For some of you, this ramen house needs no introduction, especially for its famous existence in Sydney and Hong Kong! In Sydney, the queue for this ramen house is insane, some even wait for 1-2 hours just for a bowl of ramen. Crazy!

I had a little difficulty finding Ryo Tei because the map wasn't really clear in directing, especially for someone who doesn't go to Kelapa Gading area that often (me). It's actually located at Ruko Graha Boulevard Kelapa Gading (across the La Piazza circle and you need to turn around after you see "PONG'S", very close after that), or if you know "Kelapa Gading Sports Club", it's next to that.

The area is decorated with major usage of wood material and red color. The whole area is simple but there's a sense of Japanese from the interior, especially from the hand-written calligraphy by Ryo himself.  I would say the seating capacity probably fit around 30 people max.

First things first, before we get to the food, I gotta tell you that even though this one is Fukuoka Ramen and it's from the same origin as Ikkousha and Ikkudo, but if you expect the soup to be like Ikkousha or Ikkudo, then this one might not fit your appetite. The soup is slightly lighter but stronger in flavor for me, the soup itself is really salty, because Ryo Tei ramen has this slightly different eating concept: you're not recommended to drink the soup, but you use the soup as the dip base. The portion? Really big! I would say it's 1,5 to 2 times larger than the average ramen bowl measurements. But aside from that, who knows after a sip of soup, you'll probably end up loving this one better than the rest?

Gyokai Tonkotsu Ramen
IDR 53k
This ramen comes with fish and pork stock broth with roasted pork, egg and shallots. I told you before that the soup's lighter and salty. The garnish on top is fried spring onion. Tamagos cooked perfectly and the chasiu's on a great moisture, and the cuts were pretty thick. Even though I am more the thick-broth-lover, but this one for me was very decent. I was pretty much fond and enjoy eating this one and I didn't even use the soup as the dipping base, I drank the whole soup. It was fragrant and for me, this is a beautiful bown of ramen.

Chigire Tonkotsu Karai Abura Ramen
IDR 45k
First I was horrified by the usage of chili oil on the ramen, but when you dig your soup spoon and actually tasted it, the oil was not overpowering, and surprising enough, it was not spicy, I can even put on more chili oil inside to turn up the chili flavor. The difference with the Gyokai Tonkotsu Ramen was the soup aside from the chili soup was the broth, this one was slightly lighter than Gyokai Tonkotsu.

Gyoza
IDR 20k
I personally think the Gyozas need a lot of work starting from the cooking, the dumplings skin and the filling. I didn't think the skin was moisture enough and cooked well, I was expecting the fragrant from the filling and the slightly burned skin and the crisp of them. The soy sauce was too salty for my liking.

Salmon Onigiri
IDR 20k
Let me tell you that the size of this Onigiri was so huge, it's like the size of my fist! I told the owner that this was probably the biggest Onigiri I've seen in my life, but he told me that I ain't see nothing yet, the Aussie size is 2 times larger than this. I kinda like this dish, I think it has a generous amount of Salmon. The rice was fragrant, the seasoning's good too.

Tori no Karaage
IDR 20k
Another good dish but I was expecting more from the fillet's skin because most of the times, the natural crisp from the perfectly cooked karaage is the bomb! Other than that, the meat was juicy and fragrant.

Overall, I think the food served here were decent, some might need few works on the food. I was really fond of the ramen, especially the Gyokai Tonkotsu Ramen for its uniqueness! Rarely found a ramen with fish broth in it. Thumbs up for that. The pricing itself is very affordable and logical, some food even cheaper than the ones I have in other ramen houses.

I heard today is its grand opening, you can get 20% off for the food! Follow their facebook (below) for more updates :).

Ramen... this food is really sensational and in a way, "powerful". Mention it in front of me and I'll probably crave for it just like that *fingers snap*. I just had a bowl of ramen earlier today and writing this post is such a pain in the stomach. In Jakarta, there are tons of Ramen houses in Jakarta, it's almost impossible to try them all, and I hope this post will help you on your Ramen houses surfing in Jakarta and please decide yourself on what you think is the best, some like the soup to be thick, some like it light. Some like the noodle to be thin and some like it curly. Ramen is really interesting!

Here is EATANDTREATS guide to Ramen Houses in Jakarta!
(please remember that this post is NOT  a countdown and will be updated whenever I feel like there are deserving new names)

Jalan Ratu Kemuning Raya Blok A2 No. 82
Jakarta Barat
Price range: IDR 25k-60k
I once labeled this ramen as the best ramen in Jakarta and surprisingly, it still deserves to be labeled as that. If you love thin noodles, yummy thick broth and generous thick slices of Chasiu, then this one probably fits you really well.

Tonkotsu Shisen Ramen - IDR 45k

Ikkudo Ichi
Rukan Crown Golf Blok D No. 2-3
Bukit Golf Mediterania, Pantai Indah Kapuk
Jakarta Utara

Price range: IDR 30k-70k
Their specialties is the "Buta Kara Ramen" with a glimpse of spicy red sauce, thick broth (costumized), custom noodles, juicy moist Chasiu and lovely Tamago! Somehow I like the curly noodle, it just adds up the interesting contrast.
Ikkudo's Buta Kara Ramen - IDR 45.8k

Hakata Ikkousha
Rukan Crown Golf
Bukit Golf Mediterania, Pantai Indah Kapuk
021 - 2903 3271
Price range: IDR 30k-70k
This one is also a strong contender, opening in 2011, it has been regular's favorite Ramen House to stop by and ends their disturbing ramen craving. One bowl of this Buta Special Ramen will contain an intense yet thick Pork broth, yummy Chasius, perfectly cooked Tamagos and definitely satisfaction on the last sip of the soup!

Sorry for this picture, I stole this from my Instagram! How sad. My photos are gone!!!

Santouka Hokkaido Ramen
Plaza Indonesia
5th fl.
Many rewarded this as one of the best ramens in Jakarta, as well as the most expensive. If you're more of a Hokkaido Ramen type, then this one might fit you. You can freely customize your ramen starting from the size (S-M-L), the broth, the flavor (saltiness) and the oil level of each portion. When you're dining in here, you'll get one jar of water as a free complimentary from the restaurant. The pork slices are quite thick, but still tender and juicy, and the broth is sort of milky.

Shio Charsiu Ramen - IDR 108k (large)

Shio Charsiu Ramen - IDR 78k (small)

Marutama Ramen

2nd floor, Unit A20
Jl. M.H. Thamrin Kav. 28-30, Jakarta
021 - 316 0705
Price Range: IDR 35k-100k
Personally, this joint is another of my favorite Ramen houses in Jakarta. The broth is slightly lighter than the others mentioned above, but I love the consistency and the balance of the flavor! The thin noodles are well cooked, the pork cuts are adorable and they have Tamagos to die for! The middle part (yolk) is still runny and it's simply dreamy!

Tamago Ramen - IDR 66k

Zenbu
Plaza Indonesia 5th fl.
021 2992 3648
Price Range: IDR 30k-80k
Zenbu has adorable Ramens to select! The broth is slightly lighter and it has a hint of milk flavor which is surpisingly delicious! So far, Zenbu's ramens are only available in either beef or chicken topping and available in two sizes you can customizes depending on your liking... FYI, the meat cuts are generous :).

Beef Ramen - IDR 55k (large)

Ichidaigen Ramen -> HALAL!
Jalan Radio Dalam Raya No. 20
Kebayoran Baru, Jakarta Selatan
Price Range: IDR 25k-70k
HAPPY NEWS for Ramen lovers, especially to my moslem friends, because there is actually a ramen outlet in Radio Dalam which claims to be 100% HALAL! That means they don't use and serve pork or spam products in the meal. We all know that pork broth is the most delicious, Ichidaigen uses beef bones to form the broth and surprisingly, it tastes good! The broth is sort of milky and less oily.

Shoyu Ramen - IDR 65k

Ten Ten Tempura House
Plaza Indonesia, Basement Level Unit 16-17
021 - 751 2369
Price Range: 30k-100k
Even though Ten Ten is best known for their lovely tempuras, but don't mistaken their ramens! Ten Ten's ramens are specialties in beef, chicken or seafood for both broth and topping. They haven't served pork ramens here.

Spicy Seafood Ramen - IDR 55k

Gokana Teppan
Summarecon Mal Serpong 3rd Level
Gading Serpong, Tangerang
Price Range: IDR 20k-50k
Overall, Gokana Teppan's ramens have the lightest broth and they're the most affordable overall, but that doesn't necessarily made it as the worst, I personally like my ramen to have that thick pork broth, but it's okay to try out things, isn't it?. If you want to have a good ramen with a very affordable price, then this one you might consider going :).

or you might as well try these ramen houses in Jakarta. Some I've tried before but I didn't manage to take photos of because either I forgot to bring my camera or back when I wasn't taking photos of my food and decided to blog about it ;).

If you have recommendations to the best ramen places in Jakarta, please leave your comments, and I'll update this list right after I give myself a try :). So far, I hope this will help you enough, especially people who come to Jakarta and crave for delicious ramens in Jakarta!

Thanks for reading! Lots of love <3.

Ramen. Everytime I hear this word, my imagination starts creating this illusion of an amazing foodporn resulting a deadly craving which leads to imaginary foodgasm. Okay, I don't mean to be filthy, but trust me, what I'm about to write was actually already been told from the title of this entry.

I rarely labeled something with "the best" unless I feel like something is deservant.

Last week, I am extremely honored for being invited for an exclusive menu tasting session at Tsurukamedou Ramen by Chef Masayuki Nomura. I've been hearing about this ramen and wanted to try it out for myself, but suddenly, one email notification put a smile on my face, it's a total blessing.

Tsurukamedou is located at Taman Ratu Kemuning, Greenville. This is its first branch in Indonesia, they already owned 8 other branch spread around Japan. In case you're wondering why they don't manage to fit itself at Pantai Indah Kapuk (which is like the Ramen kingdom in town), I'm going to that later.

So, why Tsurukamedou and what does it actually mean? Tsurukamedou is a word consisting the word "Tsuru", "Kame" and "Dou". "Tsuru" means crane (aves), "Kame" means turtle and "Dou" means a dome, so the word "Tsurukamedou" itself means cranes and turtles in a dome. In case you're wondering, no, they don't sell crane and turtle meats here. Crane and turtle are respected animals in Japan according to the ancestor's belief.

Prepare yourself for an amazing foodporn. OMG I am so mouthwatered right now.

Tonkotsu Ramen
IDR 45k

Hands down! This is the reason why I labelled this ramen as "THE BEST RAMEN IN TOWN!". Basically, it has everything I've ever wanted in a ramen: thick yummy broth (I prefer pork over chicken), yummy thin noodles (which I'm loving the fact that they are using it!), Tamago to die for, Chasiu that will let you mouthwatered for hours even more when you realized you've tasted it.

BROTH: I always prefer pork bone broth over chicken just because I simply love it. The broth was cooked for long hours (according to the manager, it's around 16 straight hours). For me, the broth is thick but less oily, which is good, and there's something about the thick broth that when you put it in your mouth, it just melts and the flavor just stays on your tounge for a moment, so good.

NOODLE: They use thin noodles and not those you've probably had at different outlets, the thing with the thin noodle is when you lift it with chopstick, the broth is carried along with the thin noodles (despite the broth is literally thick), but this is why I think in this case, the thin noodle works with the broth and I think it's genius. According to what the manager told me, the thin noodle is what most authentic Japanese ramen restaurants are applying.

TAMAGO: I personally think it's a total must that tamago is half-boiled, so in this case, Tsurukamedou's Tonkotsu pass the verification (LOL). I don't like cooked tamago, when I'm eating ramen with cooked (and sometimes overcooked) tamago, I definitely put it away from my bowl because it will ruin the taste. I don't know if you like it, I just don't.

CHASIU: OMG this is certainly the best chasiu I've ever had, period! First, it's so thick! most of my experience having ramen, I find the chasiu to be sliced very thin, but this one, you'll have three slices of thick chasiu. Second, they are very well seasoned! It's marinated with special ingredients from Tsurukamedou before they're being served along with the ramen. The fat is the bomb! It's so juicy and yummy I can't emphasize enough!

One bowl of this and I am full! but wait, the surprise is not over yet.

thin noodle is such genius!

Tonkotsu Shisen Ramen
IDR 45k

Being served with another bowl of ramen. If you're looking for more chasiu and "hotter" ramen, this one is a good recommendation.

First impression, it's soooo HOT and SPICY. I am not very good with spicy food and I tend to sweat a lot and this one actually succeed to cause me sweat like crazy. Still with the thick yummy spicy broth and tons of chasiu, this one should be considered for you who love spicier touch of ramen.

If you're wondering where the nori, tamago and mushroom are, they're not being served on this menu, it's because they want to keep the spiciness alive and in Japan itself, those are not being served along with spicy ramen. I think Tsurukamedou really applies everything that the Japanese outlets are doing, well, I personally that nothing is wrong with it, in fact, I kinda love it because sometimes all I want to experience is something truly authentic, well, at least on the presentation and the culture of serving. You shouldn't always depend on the market, sometimes the uniqueness and the belief of quality is the reason why the market follows you, and you'll end up having your own "market".

Tori Karaage
IDR 25k

The karaages are very well seasoned and fried nicely. This is certainly the appetizer that I'd love to recommend you guys. I love the fact that they're using soysauce for the dressing of the coleslaw instead of mayonaisse. This should come as appetizer but this came at last, I should've finished them all because it's so juicy, but the delish ramens have had me enough. So many delicious food but my stomach apparently has its limit.

Without any hesitation, I'm going to label this THE BEST RAMEN I'VE HAD IN JAKARTA!! PERIOD. I don't care if you're going to throw rotten eggs at me for this is based on my experience, still wondering if any future ramen could beat this.

Just because that it's not located at PIK or any other "busy" culinary street, it won't be successful, I DO HAVE high expectations for this ramen, I believe that when you have quality, you'll survive, I just think that you need to try this out for yourself because believe me, it's so good you'll probably agree on putting this on top of your list. This one is a strong contender.

Friendly reminder just like what I've mentioned before that this restaurant really applied its original Japanese tradition, so you won't find a lot of choices, except for ramens and some rice dish (chahan), come on, you're eating at a ramen house, I bet you'll probably aware that you'll have ramen, right :).

By the way, I'm still dreaming of having my bowl of ramen in a simple stall like this, I think it just adds the deliciousness to 100%, environment affects!
