When everyone claimed they have been (meaning: dining in) to the old Kempi Deli, I must be honest: I never went to the old Kempi Deli so this was a new experience for me! To be fair, I knew Kempi Deli but never have the urge to come into the store. I've heard good things about this particular patisserie and how the cakes were beautiful and delicious...nuff said, that's it and I spent no more time waiting around.

I had a meeting with a client on Tuesday and most of the times the clients asked me to decide the place, my mind went straight for this one and there I went for meeting and lunch, and just few hours ago I went to the Jakarta Culinary Passport 2014 which by the way far BETTER than last year and had my dinner here with a colleague, so in three freaking days, I've been to Kempi Deli TWICE! Obsessed eh?

Personally I think the new Kempi Deli was larger but I didn't think it's too significant, and still, it's not spacious though, but  I clearly LOVE the new space: it's clean, it's simple, not much unnecessary items, just how a proper (professional) patisserie should look like. If you're having a hard time finding it, it's located exactly beside Paulaner Brauhaus on the second floor Grand Indonesia (east mall).

They sell many kinds of breads, pastries, cakes without leaving what they're famous for: meats and sausages! They also sell all-day ala carte breakfasts with pretty decent range.

The seating capacity was probably only for 20-30 people, and the indoor area was the smoke-free area.

Cafe Latte
IDR 30k
Their version of the good old Cafe Latte was light, milky, in a sense pretty much like the common Cafe Latte I've had in places.

Iced Chocolate
IDR 40k
Their iced chocolate fit me in a lovely way: it was not too milky yes the chocolate flavor was rich... no, actually I requested it that way but they managed to make it how I wanted to this one passed my test!

Kalamasi Pistachio
IDR 30k
I've always been a die hard fan of Pistachio and this one got me just like that! I love how they managed to create a Pistachio cake this good: noticable and sort of rich Pistachio flavor, appealing in appearance and loving the fact that majority of the cake was mousse! As in for the sweetness, I still find it tolerable. Overall the cake had very good consistency (light, creamy, but not overpowering and bloating), and flavor wise, adorable! If you love Pistachio then you're gonna love it.

The Baltic
IDR 75k
Hands down this one was superb! Actually kind of get the feeling this would be good even before the moment it's being served on the table, the menu described this particular food nicely. It's croissant sandwich with smoked salmon, egg mayo and lettuce. If you think that the elements were so simple and not really 'sounding', wait until you try it! The croissant was just on the perfect consistency and texture: flaky while still really moist with fair salty buttery flavor (typically don't like butter but this one's an exception). The salmon given to a portion was pretty generous and the salmon was just perfectly cooked and seasoned! Everything on the place was adorably FRESH, and yes, it's THAT good and I highly recommend this - and don't blame me if you don't find it that good, either you're not lucky or else because I can't be blamed :D.

The Norwegian
IDR 75k
Two salmon courses for dinner because I could just never say NO to salmons. This one was another game changer because again I found this to be crazy good and my dinner seemed perfect!!! Okay, the smoked salmon was executed the same as the previous dish, it was so fresh, moist, smooth, silky and I love the chewiness of this salmon and I mean that good chewiness! The eggs were perfectly runny and smooth and the egg yolk had this neutral flavor and it was so fresh. The Hollandaise sauce was also lovely, one of the main reasons I don't really have eggs benedict for meal is because sometimes certain restaurants made the hollandaise sauce to be WAAAAY MILKY plus they put on too much flavor I just want to blood vomit, but this one managed to be executed in a very decent way! As simple as the toast and the asparagus was also cooked lovely. Another highly recommended dish.

This might sound silly, but I got the impression like I knew the chef and this person knows me, because everything just exactly how I expected, and what I mostly thought about while I was eating was "FRESH FRESH FRESH!" Good things need good role models to be thanks, all because of the magic hands of Chef Jacques (executive pastry chef) and Patrik Quinter (master butcher). As a first timer, I was highly satisfied by Kempi Deli for the food and the kind service staff, and I'll sure come back for more of their meals...and you guys should too! It will be my upcoming favorite place to have breakfast or brunch ;).

Psst, did I mention that they currently have this promo where you could take away the cakes from 25% OFF and the pastries for 50% OFF after 7 PM (only valid for take aways).

UPDATES!
Has been coming to Kempi Deli for uncountable times now, just the perfect spot to be alone and work on my stuff! Here are some of the menus I managed to order on my past visits after this post was first published!

Chocolate Croissant
IDR 20k
I adore the texture of the croissant, crispy coat with flaky texture on the inside, in my opinion, very close to perfection. I love how the flavor was buttery but not overpowering. This was simple but gorgeous.

Strawberry Danish
IDR 20k
Again, almost perfect danish with amazing custard cream (not too milky and not too sweet), topped with fresh strawberries. Another 20k well spent!

Macarons
IDR 12k/each
Frankly speaking, they have very good macarons, and I am talking about both flavor and texture, the texture was crispy but gooey inside with rich bold flavors. My favorite has got to be the fruit flavors!

Black Forest
IDR 30k
If you have tried the famous Black Forest from Paulaner, then you might consider this as the mini version of it, but there's something missing about this particular Black Forest from Kempi Deli, I feel like the texture was not as soft and gooey and the chocolate flavor wasn't as bold as Paulaner's while technically it's just the matter of size, or maybe size indeed does matter :).

Deli Double Decker
IDR 50k
I love the savory treats from Kempi Deli and I think they serve winner sandwiches and this Deli Double Decker wasn't an exception! The bread had this pleasant texture with fresh pork ham filling (NON HALAL), lettuce, tomatoes and cheese. This wasn't served with sauce but it's the seasoning that made this whole portion burst in your mouth. LOVELY!

This one I nearly lose hope because I have been waiting for it to OPEN and the fact that they're finally opening was beyond joy! It's said to be opening in Lotte Shopping Avenue in December 2013 but it didn't open, I went back in January praying it would open but again, it didn't. I poured my heart out on February waiting for it to be opened at least on the effin Valentine's day, expectedly enough, didn't open... until I eventually got tired and hung my heart and cheated on other ramens, until finally on the late April (or early May - didn't know), it served its first bowl and not until late May that I got the chance to actually try them!

Never knew I could be so obsessed with ramen FML. No, seriously there's something about how most of the times they set the store half-done almost half of the year that got probably not only me, but everyone who passed by wondering...then hopes faded *sigh*. This Tokyo-based ramen is now making its expansion in J-town and ready to serve you what they got! Originally they have few international stores spread in cities like Tokyo, KL and Bangkok and I am personally glad every time I see new ramen houses opening in Jakarta, even though honestly, most of the times I presume the taste is not going to be much different than the rest.

Didn't take any interior pictures on my visit, was STARVING and beside so crowded on the weekend, but what I could tell you is that it was not exactly spacious and they got major wood material applied on the whole outlet to live up the Japanese ambiance.

Buta Gyoza
IDR 33k
The gyoza skin had good consistency, just the right thickness and the golden crisp color on the surface, but I must say that overall, the flavor was just okay, the filling was fresh tho, but I didn't find this to be anything special, guessing they're lacking on the basic seasoning like the salt and the garlic flavor was a little strong! Woof!

Kakuni Tonkotsu Ramen
IDR 95k
Okay, to be completely honest, I was so freaking scared of this! Just look at the amount of pork fats all over the broth, I think most people would agree that this is not a completely healthy feast but still, it's one hell of a feast! The creamy broth was actually very tasty and that savoriness of the pork bone was very delicate and I kinda liked the noodle's texture, for me it's chewy enough. One portion of this consist of a slice of chasiu, I didn't find the chasiu to be the most tender and it was a thin cut, but on the other hand, the pork chunk was HUGE! (photo below) and tender, tasty, nicely seasoned and this one's an exception because I love the juicy pork fat :).

I was going to say that I spent more calories separating the fat from the broth rather than eating it but it would sound completely hyperbolic. I was not sure if it's the fat or the pork chunk that made one portion to be a little pricier.

Order one Cold Ocha (IDR 12k) to accompany the lunch!

Will I come back? Well I would love to go back and try their versions of Tonkotsu ramen because they were running out of stock back then (was my first choice actually), simply wondering if their version of Tonkotsu could whip the asses of the already existing ramen houses or the opposite *smirk*. In a nutshell, if you are a hardcore ramen lover and wanna get adventurous with it, then Bankara is certainly not a wrong choice! Blend yourself with the variety, what's good about their ramen is that they serve what I never really see in other ramen houses and in a way, it was a good one but as I am typing this I keep on looking at the fats on the broth -.-. Ok gotta sign off now! Ciao!

This one I nearly lose hope because I have been waiting for it to OPEN and the fact that they're finally opening was beyond joy! It...
I have been to Sentosa island not once, nor twice but I’ve gone to Sentosa Island three times in my life and every visit was such an experience! It almost feels like everytime you go there, it always has something to offer to you, so it feels just like the first time :).

Sentosa is one of the places that you’ll going to need one or two days to surf, and trust me that roughly 5 km square island has so many things to offer starting from their impressive range of dining and entertainment spots or simply walking along enjoying the mild breeze ‘kissing’ my skin on the Sentosa Boardwalk while enjoying the beautiful sea view. Want something more eye-opening and pleasant when it comes to sightseeing? Try The Merlion! Standing beautifully 37 meters above the ground, it’s just the vantage spot for you to experience 360 degree view of Sentosa and around, not enough for you? Thank goodness for Tiger Sky Tower! 131 meters tall guaranteed to offer you the amazing view of not only Singapore, but the tip of Indonesia and Malaysia from its observation cabin!

I am very adventurous and I love something that’s a little more challenging, in a sense, crazy but still so much fun to it, then the perfect way to do it is taking the cable car, Skyline Luge Sentosa or the unforgettable experience with the iFly! I had such memorable time there, finally get the chance to actually ‘fly’! But I have no one to take my picture and plus it’s not easy to have your pictures taken while flying so I have no photos L, but really, at least you need to try once!

I believe Sentosa or (Singapore in general) is very well known for their tourism attractions and *ahem* shopping spree, but wait, you just haven’t seen their beaches and your perception of fun might be changing! I once went to all the beaches in Sentosa and I loved it, in a way they have each uniqueness, to be frank they might not have the grandest wave but I just love mild beaches! Siloso is where you can relax and tan while Palawan is a little more romantic because they have that connecting bridge you can walk over (gotta love that romantic walk) and if you’re up for the view, I highly recommend Tanjong Beach, and oh, don’t forget to visit the Tanjong Beach Club where you could have your favorite cocktails while enjoying the view in front of you.

So mild and so enjoyable during the night!

I love Sentosa for some reasons, one of the prime is the fact that it’s located in Singapore and it’s pleasant to know that when I suffer from acute boredom and tired of everything in J-town, Singapore is just 1,5 freaking hours away from Jakarta and literally few minutes away from Harbour Front and Vivo City by Sentosa Express!
I must not lie, most of my trips in 2014 are sponsored, I can’t thank my sponsors enough *wipe tears*, not only that I could explore one country and another, I could save up some money and even better, actually got PAID to travel, I'm such a lucky guy!

If only I am a santa, I would love to grant your wish and make them come true, but truth be told, I am giving away some cool prizes for the lucky winners!

GOOD LUCK!!! I might see you there J.
The french culinary scene in Jakarta has been growing very rapidly but this time I won't name names as I'm going to spill you everything on the list that I'm curating at the moment about French Restaurants in Jakarta, but what I can assure you is that this following restaurant that I'll be talking about in this post is going to definitely be on the list! If you are a French cuisine lover and you don't know this restaurant, shame on me for haven't reviewing Bistro Baron! For years it has been opening its door serving the best of French cuisine to its enthusiasts.

Located on the ground floor of Plaza Indonesia, just across Kitchenette, Bistro Baron is probably one of the most magnificent as well as fancy but not intimidating French restaurant in town, what I mean with "not intimidating" is that even though the food here was curated with such excellence and everything seems 'high-class' but everyone is really welcome to eat here and to tell you upfront, I was very pleased by the service from the beginning of my visit to the end of my meal, the waiters seemed very well-trained and know how to behave properly, so in this case, service: check!

Okay, enough yakking now it's time for PHOTOS! I love showing you these photos because the place was really pretty!

The so called "Grand Entrance".
I came on the weekdays lunch time and even though the restaurant was not on its busiest (probably happening to any restaurant) but I honestly think that the crowd was pretty good, and for dinner, I noticed Bistro Baron always packed and most of the times... full house!
Something about the architecture of the restaurant that really gets me was the fact that it's actually another 'building' inside a shopping mall and I love how they're using the blue color because it adds up the sense of expensiveness, in a way a real France restaurant brought back here. Once you get in, you'll listen to tunes of French lounge and jazz music, very relaxing and again, in line with the lux this restaurant brings.
If you're wondering whether you're going to need to dress up, I must say it's not the ultimate requirement here but I noticed everybody dressed up, just so maybe you want to bond with the environment, then you'll probably want to style it up, plus I got a huge feeling you're going to take pictures here!

The dining seating capacity was estimated for around 70 people and the indoor area's the non-smoking area, rest assure for those who actually want to smoke because Bistro Baron's completed with outdoor seating area, but I suggest you choosing the indoor seating remembering how Jakarta is during the day... humid.

I started my lunch with something simple and refreshing, that is this Lychee Iced Tea (IDR 35k), this one was not something much different with the common Lychee Iced Tea but this one was indeed very refreshing and I love how FINALLY there's a restaurant that actually served Lychee Iced Tea with actual generous Lychee fruit, and I mean generous not just some syrup base drinks with jacked-up price and tiny lychee!
Butcher's Plate
IDR 195k
Bistro Baron's Butcher's Plate consist of Rillettes, Foie Gras, Smoked Duck and Duck Liver Mousse with Toasted Bread and boy did I have just the perfect appetizer! I literally love everything on that plate and everything was cooked with such perfection, and if I could highlight, then their Foie Gras is one of the best kind I've ever eaten in my twenty years of living, they literally melt in your mouth like chocolate just when you put it in your mouth. The smoked duck was also brilliant and the duck liver mousse was even more genius. First time ever having duck liver mousse and I still kept the feeling of the sensation in my head. The serving portion also consist of toasted bread but I simply like mine just how it was!

Cote de Beouf
IDR 1.150k (for 2-4 people)
Okay, first of all, don't get too stunned with the number because this was indeed a little hetfiier than the rest but let me tell you along for you to know why it would worth every IDR! The meat was 200 day grain-fed black Angus Beef Rib, and it was a one kilogram cut plus it's accompanied by choices of 3 (three) side dishes and 4 (four) sauces (Bordelaise, Bearnaise, Garlic Butter and Mustard)! If you're someone who actually know and appreciate the art of meat, Angus beef is one of those premium breed and that's why even to distribute it would cost you a little fortune. I love the fact that they cook the meat to be medium-rare! Just so you know, but it's actually back to how you like it, but the recommended cooking state for steaks should be 'medium rare' or 'medium', it's just so that you could still taste the original flavor of the meat at its best consistency. The meat was ultra tender and the seasoning was just perfect, personally the steak was best with the Bordelaise sauce (red wine sauce) with a little garlic.
The side dishes were as gorgeous as the main course, I was really-really fond of all the side dishes it got stressful for me to choose which one was my favorite, they were really good, in a way different but compliment each other. The cream spinach had this creamy milky flavor but not overpowering (especially for someone like me who had major issue with milky stuff), the sauteed mushroom was just perfectly cooked and seasoned and the fries (infused with a little truffle oil)...simply couldn't get enough.

The salad was just fresh and the seasoning was just right on the spot!

Tarte Aux Pommes
IDR 75k
My basic rule of dining is simply start your dining with something savory but always ends it with something sweet and that's why this Baked Apple Pie came just in time as a sweet ending, again, no surprise I was humbly treated by the delicacy of this apple pie: the crisp, the sweetness and the fact that it was actually very simple BUT executed nicely got me to the gut! If the common apple pies you've had somewhere were mostly moist, this one was slightly flakier and crunchier.
If you're looking for a decent GREAT French restaurant to have your lunch or dinner then look no further than Bistro Baron, based on everything that I had on my lunch, I have nothing bad to say neither any complaint, finally an almost perfect, if not, so close to perfect lunch, and I am not sugar-coating here my dear because they were THAT good.

...and behind the glorious food and a happy heart and tummy, here comes some roles to be thanked: Executive Chef Bistro Baron, Chef Herry Adi Nugraha and the team! Dear chef, you have magic hands!
2014 has been a great day to surf new places to eat but to be frank and so far until June, probably only three that really deserve to be on my year-end list and it came as no surprise that the existing restaurant like Bistro Baron survived, pretty much sure they're making it on my year-end list and so far one of the best dining experience in 2014. They don't survive for quite some time in the F&B business for nothing, honey... QUALITY TALKS!
