UNION JAKARTA REOPENING05.14.00
CONGRATULATIONS UNION JAKARTA FOR RE-OPENING!
Just got back from the re-opening lunch invitation with some of my beloved foodie friends and I am here sitting at the Starbucks Plaza Senayan sharing my experience with you. Nope this is not going to be a full review since honestly there's almost nothing changing in a glance, they were closing NOT for a full renovation - and I don't want my UNION to change at all -, it's more to the maintenance matter and optimizing certain things that needed to be fixed. I don't know if it's just me or the AC works better because it was honestly colder than it used to be, and not to mention Jakarta has been raining non-stop even as I am typing this post, but good good I love it when it rains.
It was a casual lunch, I met up with some friends, had fun chatting around while munching over UNION's good food, but the highlight has got to be the newly launched cakes that were pretty impressive (and in conjuction to the Ramadhan season): the beautiful Kolak and Klappertaart Cake are curated by the one and only Karen Carlotta, UNION's very own pastry chef and one of the owners as well. Let me tell you guys Karen doesn't make bad cakes!
Beautifully cooked and crunchy wings seasoned just spot on. It was very fragrant as well!
This was what I had and I love every bit of it. The rib eye was cooked precisely "medium" as how I wanted it, the idea of actually serving it with homemade sambal needed to be praised, the sambal was spicy with a kick, and the type of sambal that fits the rib eye like a freaking glove. The grilled zucchini and mesmerizing crispy brussel sprouts were the perfect sides to this dish, well let's not forget the french fries guys.
The kolak cake came in this delightful presentation with runny Aren sugar and beautiful green color. I expected the cake to be lighter in texture as I found this a little thick with almost no contrast to the texture (but hey anyway it's Kolak after all). If only they can make the texture pretty much like the AMKC Es Teler cake, I'd be completely sold.
If you ask me to choose between the two, I might go for their Klappertaart cake just because it's lighter and better varied in texture and just more interesting for me starting from the look to the flavor. Out of the klappertaart I've had, Hanna's Klappertaart is among my favo and this kinda reminds me of that so I guess this cake is a huge success for me: you got the rum, the raisin, the crunchy crumbs and nuts, and on top of that, pretty meringue-like presentation.
